Freedom to Fly All Ships

X4 allows you to personally pilot all types of ships. From small scouts to the largest carriers, every ship can be controlled from the cockpit or an external view. A significant focus during the development of X4 has been to create a seamless and immersive experience when transitioning between ships. You can leave a ship, climb down a ladder, walk across the dock of a large space station, and enter another ship you may have parked there, replacing the pilot with a simple click on their chair.

Modular Stations and Ship Upgrades

Building space stations and factories has always been a cornerstone of the X games. After accumulating enough wealth through fighting or trading, most players aspire to establish their own economy and influence the universe on a larger scale. In X4, you have complete freedom and creativity. Stations can be constructed from various modules, including:

• Production modules
• Living sections
• Docks
• And many other types of parts

The powerful new map system allows you to drag and connect modules using a connection system to design your own unique creations. Ships also offer a variety of upgrades, where engines, weapons, and other equipment can be added in a graphical editor and visually seen on the ship.

The Most Dynamic X Universe Ever

X4 is the first X game to enable races and factions to freely build and expand their empires. The same flexibility enjoyed by players in creatively designing space stations from modular building blocks is also available to the races. Empires expand based on supply and demand, leading to an extremely dynamic universe where every action taken by the player can influence the course of the entire universe.

Managing Your Empire with a Powerful Map

As you acquire more ships and many NPCs working for you as pilots, crew, or station managers, the map will become your preferred method of management. Ships can be ordered with simple clicks and through drag-and-drop operations to set their future paths and commands. You can:

• Graphically plan your trade routes
• Coordinate attacks with your entire fleet
• Manage the hierarchy
• Send ships on remote exploration missions

The Most Detailed X Economy Ever

One of the key selling points of X games has always been the realistic, simulated economy. Wares produced by hundreds of stations and transported by thousands of ships are actively traded by NPCs, with prices developing based on this simulated economy. This forms the foundation of our living and breathing universe. With X4, we have taken a massive step forward. For the first time in any X game, all parts of the NPC economy are manufactured from resources. Ships, weapons, upgrades, ammo, and even stations are all derived from the simulated economy.

Research and Teleportation

The seamless transition from ship to ship and from NPCs controlling your empire continues at a higher level. Once you own a larger fleet, you will be keen on researching a technology from your HQ: Teleportation. Once unlocked, you can jump from ship to ship more quickly and experience all critical situations your NPCs encounter firsthand. Every order given to a ship before becomes a mission objective when you pilot the ship yourself. The moment you leave, your pilot resumes control and continues with their previous orders.

In X4, you can start your journey from various game starts and as different characters, each with their own roles, relationships, and starting ships and technologies. Regardless of how you begin, you are always free to develop in any direction.
